The context

An environmental work, to introduce the children of a nursery to today's images and technologies, but also to make them aware of living things and the functioning of ecosystems.

This artistic commission was carried out by the association responsible for the creation of the nursery, concerned to give a place to image and sound in its educational and social project and to present the world in a playful and sensory way to the very young children it welcomes. Wink at the character of the building that houses the nursery (an old water retention basin whose original walls, one metre wide, were pierced to create the openings necessary for its new function), Mathieu Briand interpreted it as a Vessel.

La commande

A series of installations occupy all the spaces and invite the new occupants to a voyage of discovery. Different video and digital devices allow children to play with their image, explore the outside world or open up opportunities for communication with others. All the elements that make up the work are malleable and open to the future introduction of new content. The installation of an aquaponics system (an ecosystem in which fish and plants are in symbiosis) is under study.

Mathieu Briand

Claiming influences marked by science fiction and high technology, Mathieu Briand's artistic approach is part of a back and forth between real and fictional, tangible and virtual, proposing both a form of introspection and a questioning of the social bond. The artist often designs works that are practiced and/or interact with the viewer. Their evolutionary and playful aspect leaves a large place to the sensory approach evoking the discovery of the world by the child where wonder is still devoid of knowledge.
