The context

As part of its renovation, the Sainte-Elisabeth medical clinic wished to rethink the arrangement of its analgesic medical treatment unit. The design should, as much as possible, give the cozy atmosphere of a bed and breadfast to a hospital environment and encourage dialogue between patients and their families, doctors and the hospital staff. The artistic project must take into special consideration the main areas for the patients' well-being : the water-therapy room, the bedrooms, the relaxation room and the psychologists' and volunteers' lounge. In his study, François Azambourg decided to dramatically increase the luminosity of the space, modifying the circulation within the department for this purpose.

François Azambourg

François Azambourg, designer, was born in 1963 in Angouleme. He graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d'Art in 1987 and initially worked as an interior and furniture designer, particularly for stores. His research often involves taking a new look at traditional materials like wood, as well as the invention of innovative composite materials. Azambourg taught at the Boulle School from 1995 to 2001 and now teaches design at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle in Paris.
